I am a Finalist in the ‘Making a Scene’ DJ Competition and I came Second!

Title says it all really!

I’m proud of myself, if I’m allowed to say that :/

Is rather an achievement even though I didn’t win!

I absolutely LOVED my set, was my best yet! The reception I got was immense! I absolutely smashed it hands down!

I didn’t need to win it, the crowd showed me that they were absolutly raving mad during my set. Jumping around, Screaming, Hands in the air! Honestly can’t tell you how it feels when you’re behind the decks and people are obviously having a smashing time on the dance floor.

As I said to a few people at the start of the competition if I get to the Finals I’ll be happy and I am, very! I also said I would throw my mask to the crowd and play a “Gabber” track… Yes this happened too! Haha!

I want to thank each and every one of you who supported me through this competition. I’ve literally been blown away by your support and encouraging words! I’ve really learnt the true meaning of friendship as well from some awesome people!

So without you, I wouldn’t of made it this far, so thank you all so, so much!

Don’t worry this isn’t gonna be the last you’re gonna see of me!

I may have come second out of about 100 DJ’s but this is just the beginning…

Dear Blog / Viewers / Server, whoever reads this I guess.

I will tell you how last night went:

Most of the day I was all hyped up and like “Yeah yeah yeah. It’s tonight” About 6 o’clock came… Shiiiiiiiit I’m DJ’ing live In about 6 hours time! So My heart started to race nerves kicking in and what have you. Out came the mellow music “Ahh relaxed!” Lol

House mates started doing T-Shirts with vote for DJ Esi written all over them! (Was pretty darn awesome I have to say!)

Headed off to Chill met up with some MORE people! They too had a T-shirt! Walked in said “Hello” to the regulars got “Good Lucks” “Smash it” “Fooking Ave It” “You’ll be fine” “You’re the best” This helped an awful lot a I was shaking pretty much from 6′clock onwards, haha!

Had a few drinks nothing too heavy, just to get me a bit more confident (Dutch Courage so to speak!) Found out my set time was @ 1, so had nice time to get to grips and adjust! DJ before me came on. Shiiiiit I’m on after him!!!!! Eeeek!

Less than half hour, Shakes come back, Heart beating faster, feeling the thud of ever kick, snare and bass in the Club!

Got CD’s out Got Headphones out Got Mask out!

Walked into booth this was it less than 5 min’s! Was most worried the whole night about missing a Mix or “kangarooing” a track. Soon as last DJ stopped and I started up I was gone! Went into my own little world and only faded back into reality in the build ups! I knew it would be different from mixing to people Online and sound wise, but this was something else! The vibe ZOMG! Had people who came to support me shouting “Esi, Esi, Esi!” Under my lil mask I was grinning like a Cat ok!

I only “Kangarooed” one track which was noticable which I was a bit upset with, but I recovered it back before the drop so was kind of bearable, but still shouldn’t of happened ><

I know why it happened so I can learn from mistakes though! You don’t get a crisp play out of what everyone hears when you are in a club you get a slight reverb on all the bass and I found it hard sometimes to not get confused with the wrong one! Thus getting an off beat mix!

Once I was comfortable, out came the arms in the air! Taking pictures at Chill I’ve seen ALOT of DJ’s and I’ve observed the ones that get the crowds going and why and what they do! I knew if I wanted to make a good impression not only did my Mix have to be popular for people to know, but also different enough to go, “Ooh this is new, not heard this version before” or “OMG I LOVE THIS TUNE!” So I made sure I picked some good “Crowd Pleasing Tracks”

Once I’d started I was fine, which is as I guessed. My hands were like leafs first 5 mins then was ok!

When I’d practiced the half hour set it seemed so much longer! But everyting is so much quicker as soon as you get behind the Decks, it’s insane!

I think what really made my night was the lil group at the front cheering me on! Actually made it so so so good!

I really hope to get through to the next round, will probably do something crazier than 20 tracks in 30 min’s though. Why I chose to do that I’ll never know I must be nuts! Sweat was starting to drip off me at the end from all the dancing, haha!

If I don’t get through I won’t mind, as it was an awesome experience and I shall use it as a stepping stone to new things!
